I’m among a select and fortunate few to have sampled ‘Lucky You’ the very well orchestrated and definitely more aggressive final cut to ‘KARMA’, GSA’s 2007 freshman debut album. Here’s what I love about these cats. They have talent, they take their time crafting their art and most importantly, they have fun all along the way. I’ve been a huge fan of this South Jersey duo since being introduced to ‘This Type of Behavior’, ‘The Distance Between’ and ‘Save The World’. Now with the addition of ‘Lucky You’ we have the incredibly well rounded, hard hitting, smooth and intellectual ‘KARMA’. Storm their myspace page and show some major love!

Jeffrey Tyo
Coshocton, OH
Label - Immortal Productions
The best part of writing for Fierce.com is I can wake up and decide on a whim whom I’m going to write about and help promote. The rest of today I’m focusing on Indie bands from Ohio; primarily because I spent a considerable amount of time in Ohio but also I know there’s a music talent pool that needs exposure. So I stumble upon this cat Jeffrey Tyo and I’m immediately taken by the chill sounds of ‘Let Go’ and ‘Rain’, two very well crafted down tempo cuts with swirling vox and great instrumentals. There’s a certain 80’s metal ballad incorporated to these tracks which can be dangerous territory, but Tyo pulls it off masterfully. Be sure to check out ‘Girl You Blew a Good Thing’ and ‘The Best I Never Had’, 2 rockin’ upbeat tracks. There was hint in his myspace Bio of giving up music at one point. Do us all a favor Jeff, keep on making great music!

The Red Lights
Los Feliz, CA
Label - Unsigned
LA based The Red Lights have struck a musical chord with me today..already and its only 8am! Last evening I downloaded 4 tracks from these cats and spent the better part of my train ride home lost in their music. Instantly captivated by lead vox Andrew Miller and equally mesmerized by the well choreographed instrumentals. There are many genres and influences at work here and although not listed I immediately thought The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen and most definitely The Cowboy Junkies (think ‘Sweet Jane’). Very cool stuff here folks. I typically pick 1 or 2 cuts to recommend but do yourself a favor and listen to ‘Red Lights’, ‘Sandless Beach’, ‘Lovely Teacher’ and ‘Nothing More To Say’..the ladder being my personal favorite. Storm their myspace page, show some love and download their music.

Mandi LeBlanc
Brooklyn, NY
Label - Unsigned
I’ve spent the better part of the morning listening to the chill sound of Mandi LeBlanc and I’m already hooked on this unsigned, Indie artist. Mandi’s smooth, intelligent and dreamy vox are nicely complimented by well orchestrated instrumentals (shout-out to the band, Chris Landry - Bass, Seth Johnson - Drums , Jeremiah Seeley - Drum & Bass Programming). Definitely hear the Aimee Mann, and Edie Brickell (amongst others) influences in most of her tracks. Pay particular mind to ‘Met a Boy’ and my personal favorite ‘Subway Love’. Get Mandi LeBlanc’s ‘This is Me EP’ at iTunes.

Stop what you’re doing right now and check out the very fierce, very upbeat Mathieu Bouthier’s ‘Make Your Own Kind Of Music’. I just grabbed it from iTunes and I’m not only juiced but inspired..‘Make your own kind of music..even-if-nobody-else-sings-along’! Great advice MB!
Check out a clip from the video…very cool stuff!

Free Bass 808
New York, NY/London, UK
Label - Unsigned
Suede & The Apple Juice Kid are Free Bass 808, a very unique blend of Experimental Hip-Hop and Disco House. Caution…this music is not for the beginner. Dive into the chill sounds of ‘Sky Ocean’ and the soulful preach of ‘Friends’ a well done Whodini pull. Both tracks are off ‘2008 Sounds of Addiction’ and available at iTunes. Cheers mates..Hip-Hop the way it should be!

Melissa Marie, Allison Wonderland and Danigore make up the wicked fierce LA trio Millionaires. I’m a sucker for all female bands to begin and Millionaires is no exception. Add raw but well orchestrated Club tracks and equally hard driving lyrics (just check out ‘Hoe Down’ and ‘Talk Shit’ if you don’t believe me) and its no wonder they have a pretty substantial fan base. Personally I liked ‘I Like Money’ but got hooked on these chicks on ‘Alcohol’. You can pull all of Millionaires music from their myspace page.

Clementine
Pensacola, FL
Label - Outlook Management Group
It’s a particularly lazy, rainy day here in Philly today. I’ve been listening to Pensacola based Clementine for the better part of 45 minutes now. When I lock up on a band, I’ll listen to tracks many times over to pick up on nuances I may have overlooked. Although these cats have only three tracks posted, they are all well orchestrated cuts with chill instrumentals and vox. Check out the easy-listen of ‘Fever’ and ‘White Lines’ in particular. I’d like to make Clementine a permanent fixture on my iPod but alas no clear landing spot to download their music. Any help folks would be appreciated.
